The velodrome really does have some wonderful action - it gives you an idea of just how much training you have to do to make the difference of seconds. First time I ever went to the Manchester velodrome, I think my time to do one lap was 23 seconds. My all time best is 19.6 seconds after two years of training.
Victoria Pendleton manages it in about 16 seconds, but the amount of training to shave off those fractions of a second which make the difference of a world record are phenomenal.
