One of the principal purveyors of the European power metal scene were Helloween and the albums Keeper of the Seven Keys. Since the glory days of those albums back in the 1980s, the band had been in serious decline and had only managed to put out the decent Master of the Rings album in 1994, whilst the rest of their releases post seven keys had consisted of either very average albums to comnplete rotten tomatoes. Better Than Raw was a major return to form as here was a veteran band that finally found the creativity and consistency to really put out a great album again and re-establish themselves. Forget the cheesy cover (Helloween dug the cheese more than anybody else) becuase the songs are first rate, the singing and the riffs equally.
