I only read the last few pages of this thread and, from there, it looks like Urban is the only one making any kind of sense so I don't even know where to start my criticism and I guess I'll just tell a story instead.

Girls, Girls, Girls most definitely contributed to the destruction of my cochlea and here's why: When I was about 12 one of my chores was to mow the roughly two acres of grass at my house in Virginia (and btw, Janszoon, what you described is called Sweet Tea. Iced Tea has no sugar and of course sometimes people in the states also drink hot tea for some reason) and so I used a riding lawnmower which was very fucking loud.

Despite the fact that all I had to do was to drive a motor vehicle around for a couple of hours I still hated it because it was a chore. So to alleviate my boredom and frustration I used to listen to my walkman and, naturally, I had to crank the volume all the way up to hear the music over the motor. I listened to a lot of different stuff at the time but Girls, Girls, Girls sticks out in my mind for this reason:

I used to sing along with the music when I rode this goddam lawnmower around the property and, in my mind, it was like casually singing in the shower or something. My ears were always ringing afterwards but I didn't figure that this mattered (I was 12). One day, after a grueling session of mowing and listening to Girls, Girls, Girls I came back in the house and my mom asked me: "Were you just screaming at the top of your lungs that whole time?" Now this concerned me because most of the lawn was many yards away from the house so how could she possibly have heard me? I realized that, yes, I had been screaming the whole time and had no idea how loud my "singing along" was because of all the ambient noise from the mower.

So thank you, 80s Motley Crue, you helped the ringing in my ears get where it is today. I hope you're happy.
