My favourite of his folkier work is America. It's straight forward folk with that signature Fahey style. I'd also check out Vanguard Visionaries and Blind Joe Death (no transfiguration), those would be some good albums to start with.

To see the other side of Fahey, you can also check out Womblife, which is a fantastic album of avant-garde tapework and guitar together. Not for everybody, but it's my overall favourite of his.
