I think the albums are actually very similiar, with the only real difference being the singers. 1984 is the better album but 5150 has the better standout tracks as in its singles. Van Halen were looking to put out a specific metal sound with synthesizers and that is clear to see on 1984, "I'll Wait" one of my favourite tracks easily could've been on 5150. So to make things more even (or better said to stop a complete massacre) I'm going with 5150.

I was going to mention how great "Hot for Teacher" is, but everytime that song gets mentioned, The Batlord for some strange reason put up a Venom video on the same topic and says how much better it is
