And as you already know, not many of today’s recording artists write their own material. It’s important they write their own songs, so they’re not at the mercy of anyone. I like Nickelback's first few albums, but after you've once heard one of their ballads, you've basically heard them all. Its too bad they don't try something different with their style and sound because in my opinion they are actually a descent rock band.

Mainstream/pop in the 70s in comparison to the modern day seemed to have more inspiration by the artist themselves?

I think Def Leppard is ranked where they should be, they were one of the big bands during their day. Just about everybody liked/listened to them.
