I woudnt say influence is overrated at all. If there's a really influential band and you don't like them, then **** it, don't listen to them. Just because a band is influential doesn't mean they make good music, but what is "good" is completely subjective. Influence is One of the few things in music that isn't subjective. And because of that, an influential band just kind of deserves a little respect, if you like them or not, because their effect on music is undeniable.
