I don't have anything against nu metal, but yeah, the genre typically has sub par (as in, generic, cookie-cutter copies of one another) songwriting, and yes, it was mostly a cash grab. It was one of the biggest genres of the early 2000's, I can assure you that most of the bands playing nu metal were in it for the money.
Does all that mean I hate nu metal? No, but it does mean that it's a pop genre designed for kids! That's not a bad thing, but it's kind of just the way it is.

And if they can be in it for the money and still make better and more meaningful music than heavy/thrash/death/black kudos to them. Too bad we'll never know for sure so you can keep your guesses to yourself.
What are you trying to say by pop genre? That its popular or that it is related to pop music? Cause I know it was popular late 90s early 2000s but it isn't anymore. Now heavy/thrash/death are more popular than Nu. And it obviously isn't related to pop music.
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike ALL music from the genres I mentioned. I can stomach some Metallica, Pantera and I even heard a good death metal song once but it was ruined by a boring, long unneeded solo. The solo was BTW Spirit Crusher by Death.
