I'll often toss on something for the atmosphere when I hit the sack, and it's mostly just soothing.
I did have an interesting experience once playing one of my favourite albums. As I was listening to it and easing into relaxation, I noticed that the song I was listening to sounded faster than I'd ever heard it before, which I supposed was me observing the change of my own brainwaves from beta into alpha. It was neat.
