Well, one naturally has the right (there are plenty of ways in which to do so) but it still takes a certain amount of solipsism to go that far, no? Can a neutral observer at least say that the person ought to reconsider his/her decision at least for the sake of their closest friends/family members (without sounding selfish)? Some of these incidents may be due to isolation, but believe me you, I think almost everyone will know someone whom they could write a letter to for which the response would be surprisingly positive.
