You should check out some Joe Bonamassa - I particularly like "Sloe Gin," "Ballad of John Henry," and "Dust Bowl." All three have some killer guitar playing, and while they straddle the line between rock and blues, there are some great straight-up blues tunes on each one. I've had more than one friend get into blues via J.B.

Other not-so-modern albums:
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown - Pressure Cooker - killer combination of blues, jazz and country.
Buddy Guy - "The Real Deal: Live with the SNL Band" - it's hard to pick one Buddy Guy album, but this is a great live set
Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Texas Flood" - yeah, hard to leave off SRV when you talk "fast blues guitar action".
Magic Sam - "West Side Soul" - an absolute classic. Maybe not as "flashy" as the others, but some killer groove and playing.
