I think the way our hands are designed affects what instrument would suit us best. With guitar and bass I play both but I have long strong fingers but that are not naturally flat when barring a chord on a guitar, so it takes me more effort to push down harder to bar a chord, as for bass guitar I find it more natural to play finger style, tapping, and slapping.
Also bass players with a 'hitch hikers' thumb are better at double thumbing because they can get more 'purchase' on the upward thumb pluck.
