Only in the US. You go into a store here and ask for jelly they'll give you a small rectangular packet of gelatin that you drop into boiling water, leave in the fridge for a few hours and then enjoy with ice cream or whatever.
Here on this side of the world jam is what you spread on your bread, toast, waffles, whatever. So what do you call what we call jelly then? The dessert?
