My mother was a chef, she calls seedless jam jelly, I went to catering college they called seedless jam jelly there too. I worked in a supermarket they were called jams & jellys there too.

It is possible for more than one thing to have the same name. I'm assuming you've never filled up a chip pan with Castrol GTX because you were confused by the word oil being used for several things.

My mother & the supermarket and the tutor at the collage were English btw.
