I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I think the band was going for this type of sound on Angles, but wasn't in the right place to produce it, after the long break and tension between members. Some of the songs on Angles sounded half-baked; this album sounds like it was made with greater care and focus. There's not a bad track on it in my opinion. It's also coherent, which Angles was not.

I can see why people would be disappointed in the change of sound. It's not the garage rock of the early days (except for All The Time and 50/50), but The Strokes have been headed in this direction ever since First Impressions of Earth. This is where those efforts have culminated, and the result is their best album since Room On Fire.

Currently, my favorite tracks are "80's Comedown Machine," "Chances," and "Call It Fate, Call It Karma."
