Actually I should have clarified. There WAS no divorce in Ireland at the time. In 1994 the act was repealed that prohibited divorce so I guess we do have it now, though it's not something I take any notice of. I don't think there's much in the way of actual divorce here these days though. I could be wrong. I just know it wasn't around when my ****bag father effed off, leaving my ma with NO support, financial or otherwise, and basically leaving her with no recourse to courts or anything, and having to carry the burden of the family on her own while he got to live his new life.
