I don't agree that they're mutually exclusive. I have a large music collection that I listen to on and off, but am always looking for something new that speaks to me. When I collected CDs only (before downloadable music from the net became possible) I was restricted as I couldn't spend 15/20 Euro every week or even month, particularly on an album I might not like. When I was thus restricted I did find myself getting bored listening to the same albums, even if they were great. Fresh is always good, so as long as the quality is maintained I have no problem constantly expanding my library.
