That's happened over and over and over. One of them came from the Angels, Scott Spiezio. All he did was become a key factor in the Cardinals 2006 World Series championship. Beltre is probably the best (or from my perspective, worst) examples. Some, like Richie Sexton and Chone Figgins, were never good again, but by then the M's had already paid them freakin millions. Especially Figgins.
