I have recurring dreams loads, they're always based around past events, phases or moments in my life too. I had the flying one when I was a child all the time. Doesn't happen now.
These days the best dreams I have are always ones where I'm being chased. Sometimes it's by gangs of people I used to hang around with when I was younger trying to kick my head in on the streets. Other times it's the police trying to arrest me. I've had criminals with guns chase me before too trying to kill me, sometimes I'm being chased through buildings too. They should be nightmares really but I love those dreams, I wake up with a proper adrenaline rush, it's ace
I do the cat thing too but only when I'm trying to go to sleep. I imagine I have a pet cat that is purring and cuddling me. It's very tranquil.
