Also if a large man hits a smaller man is that equally as wrong? Most people wouldn't bat an eyelid at that and there's an extreme physical difference there.

i think hitting a woman is shameful 99.99% of the time. if your life is in danger because she's swinging a cast-iron frying pan at your head, knock her out and call the cops. scenarios differing from this should simply be fled.
