I've been slower than usual at getting new albums recently, something to do with buying a house and moving I think. But here are my latest:
The Black Angels -
Directions to See a Ghost (2008)
I realized today that this is the only album of theirs I hadn't heard yet, so I'm rectifying that with Spotify right now.
The Hussy -
Pagan Hiss (2013)
Pretty fun psych/punk/garage rock stuff. Just one listen so far, but I was fairly impressed.
Darkstar -
News From Nowhere (2013)
I had my eye on this a while back, but have been a bit reluctant to put it on, fearing that it may be too ambient or boring. Instead, it's got good energy and sounds that hold my attention quite well. Some of the tracks are reminding me of
Merriweather-era Animal Collective, and it just so happens that's my favorite of theirs so that's cool. The album as a whole has its own feeling though, and doesn't just feel like neo-psych. It has a good summery vibe like Bibio's
Ambivalent Avenue, but more relaxed. I don't love the album cover but it fits the sounds.
