It's a pretty good album. It probably sounds more like U2 fronted by a young Leonard Cohen than any of their previous ones do. I think this will go down in history as a signature sound of the late 2000s/early 2010s.

I have another prediction: In the 2030s, songs from this album will be featured on the soundtracks of films made about friends who are in college now getting together for emotional reunions. Probably also films about the crumbling marriages of couples who are in their 40s and are reviewing how their bittersweet relationships began and ultimately end. People who are in their early 20s now will relate to those films in no small part due to the inclusion of these old songs by The National.

Anyway... it's a good album. I personally prefer their previous ones.
