Upstream Color
This is my film of the year. I loved every second of it and I have no idea what I just watched. No idea.
This is going to be a film I'm going to have to watch a lot of times. I just ordered the blu-ray as soon as it ended. For those of you who aren't privy to my nerdi-ness, Upstream Color is the long waited second film from writer/director Shane Carruth who gave us the best time travel movie not named Back to the Future...Primer. I've been waiting for a long time to see this. A long time. I watched the trailer once and it was enough to peak my interest and wait. It's playing at the IFC theater in the city but I haven't been able to drive in but I'm going to this week so I can experience this on a screen.
It's beautiful. Do you like Terrance Malick? See this film.
It's poetic. Do you like allegory and euphoria? See this film.
It's hypnotic. Do you like emotion wrapped up in a hallucinating haze of wonder? See this film.
It's got an amazing score, also by Carruth, and amazing camerawork. I can't recommend it enough. It's just that wonderful. It'll be unlike any film you've ever seen.
