Even if Canadian artists never entirely created their own scene or movement (which it could be argued no artist truly does), I think being the best or an exemplar in one's field itself is a contribution to music - oftentimes, these are the people that lead sounds or paradigms or whatever you want to call them. Many Canadian artists are noted for how idiosyncratic their music is as well, i.e. Neil or Joni Mitchell. Neil is also credited with forecasting Grunge though, which is quite a feat despite how you feel about the genre or its fallout.
