I just recently got out of a job in government customer service for tax credits claimaints, which for anyone who isn't familiar is supposedly there to act as a top-up for low income homes in the UK for anyone who is eligible to claim it.
While I would say 99% of the people I spoke to were genuine and legit, and not at all the kinds of people that fit the stereotype for benefits claimaints, that job certainly teaches you how to hold your tongue and grit your teeth when talking to the other 1%, especially when unemployed partner number five is calling on behalf of the unemployed mother to inform you of the birth of baby number seven to ensure that they are gonna get the money for that kid too, and when asked when the child was born, they inform you it was around half an hour ago and they are calling from the hospital.
You can say what you want about people like this, in criticism or defence, but I learned a lot about what their priorities were.
