Default Just a quick introduction

Hey, all!

I'm drh1589. I'm a music student who finished his second year as a music ed major. I started out playing the flute by convincing my band program to let me start 2 years early (coming from a private school with an after-school band program, that wasn't terribly difficult), in the 3rd grade. I've played ever since and it is my principal instrument.

Since then, I picked up the guitar at 15 or 16 (can't honestly remember), and have been a member of 4 or so local rock bands playing gigs when we can.

I started playing the drums when the drummer of one of these bands left the group. At this point we played metal (drop-D guitar riffs. It was pretty crappy tbh), but I learned quickly.

I presently play in one serious local rock band, which recorded and produced its own album a year or so ago. I play drums in this band and we play over holidays and summers getting as much work as we can.

The summer before college, I taught myself jazz guitar with a local jazz legend and a buddy of mine going into jazz guitar at another school. We played duo gigs around coffee shops, and I've played at in my university big band and top jazz combo for the last 2 years.

I also sing in my University Choir and Chamber Singers every year and am the bass section leader.

I've recently started a jazz combo with the aforementioned jazz guitar buddy, an absolutely phenomenal drummer I know from school, a bassist, and a trumpeter. I play all the woodwinds.

I am an absolute music theory nerd. Give me a piece of music to sight-read and I'll solfege it perfectly. I solfege everything I listen to

I've been looking for a music forum to join recently and found this one, so I figured I'd sign up. So hi!
