I think it comes with experience. Music is going to be judged on, through the listener, and all of that jazz. People who listen to a wide variety of music tend to identify weaknesses in certain aspects.
Nickelback for example: musical aficianados may find their chord progressions and musicianship lacking, spurring their dislike. Fans of, like, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, or Richard Howard may see the lyricism os lacking and ridicule that.
It's objective, but it is based upon experience.
