Certainly you can share a negative opinion with someone while still being respectful.
Still, I seldom comment on others tastes. That's their business. Someone who listens to Slipknot obviously gets enjoyment from listening to Slipknot and if that works out for them, what's the value in me telling them they should find their enjoyment elsewhere? If they get motivated to move on from Slipknot, they will do that without my input. If they're not motivated, they should probably stick to it.
