I'm with Kayleigh I think you're being overly harsh on the nurse.

I had a blood test a few months ago and the nurse found a vein with the first attempt and it was over about a minute later.
When I went up for a follow up test a month later the same nurse tried the same place as last time, couldn't find one tried another 3 times and was unsuccessful, then she tried twice on my other arm and eventually she found one, taking her almost 20 minutes.

It wasn't because she was badly trained, it's just one of those things.
