Vanilla, sad to hear about your back problems. Of course I remember you've mentioned them before. Unfortunately, I don't think that acupuncture is an effective treatment for back pain (even if the resulting placebo might help a bit) .. How about excercise? I know people who keep their back pains in check by excercising. They're fine as long as they do it regularly, but when they stop for a while, it comes back.
Needless to say, you shouldn't have to rely on opiates and sleeping drugs to have a normal, pain free life
If you do, that needs to get sorted out asap!
