In Vain -
Ænigma (2013)
I remember saying back in 2010 when I reviewed
Mantra that this band has the potential to be this decade's Opeth and I still stand by that statement. Grand sweeping song structures, loud/soft dynamics, elements of progressive rock and traditional folk music thrown in with a mixture of clean and guttural vocals. I definitely feel this album is perhaps their strongest, helped by the band ditching some of the oddly placed Southern blues arrangements from
Mantra. If you're a fan of bands like Solefald, Borknagar, or Green Carnation you'll probably get something out of this, mostly because In Vain shares some of the same members as all the aforementioned bands.
