The Book of Illusions by Paul Auster
It took me forever to finish this for some reason but it was a really great book. A story about a man who loses his entire family in a plane crash, writes a book about silent film star who vanished in the late 1920s and is eventually contacted by said silent film star's wife, this book somehow manages to nest stories inside of stories, to outline the plots of amazing non-existent silent films, to engage in obscure French literary analysis, to highlight forgotten bits of history, to tell several emotionally gripping stories all at once, and somehow make it all work together. Highly, highly recommended.
John Dies at the End by David Wong
Reading this because I recently watched the movie based on it and was very intrigued. It's a creepy, tongue-in-cheek story about a black, furry injectable drug called "soy sauce" that gives users the ability to see things no one else can see and do things no one else can do. Also, supernatural trans-dimensional beings, alternate timelines, trashy semi-urban rustbelt life, parties, horrible bands, paranoia and one of the best titles ever. Liking it a lot so far.
