Because splitting them up into many sub-forums would be stupid, and not making a forum on the grounds that its "too unique" is even stupider...I dont care if its a forum or a sub-forum, there should be one, if its a sub-forum it should be in the rock forum and nothing else, prog rock is a type of rock, symphonic prog is inspired by classical music, but it is not classical music, its PROG, just like prog folk isnt folk its prog, nor is jazz rock jazz...Prog sub-genres are not sub-genres to classical music, jazz, folk or anything, they are sub-genres to prog. And the comparison to rap is a valid one, the genres have nothing in common musicly, but they are similar for the fact that they were both based off many genres and styles, and just like rap, prog is a unique and destictive style of music in its own right, it uses elements of those genres, but its NOT a part of those genres, more than anything its rock, but like metal and punk its very different from standard rock. rock itself is based off the blues and folk music, but it is NOT blues nor is it folk, its a genre of its own, just like prog, prog is a sub-genre to rock yes, but you treat it like its just a minor sub-genre and nothing more, well you are wrong, it isnt, in fact, in the 70s prog was one of the most popular rock genres in the world, it never died, it was just too weird to be commercial and people began paying more attention to punk and metal, but prog is just as big as punk and metal, its just nowhere as popular. And i dont care about how or when, IMO it should have a forum, sheesh.
