True this. But they provide a freedom that is just not possible without a motorized vehicle. I didn't start driving (believe it or not) until 3 years ago, age 52. I thought I got around just fine, was very handy with public transportation and whatnot, but there's just nothing like making a last minute decision to bail off to places like Crater Lake as I did a couple weeks ago. I can't say as I'm happy with the expense but the freedom is fecking wonderful.
