This could work since we can already grow embryos in test tubes and Petri dishes. However I think something like this would work better with same sex couples who are both male, because then the sex of the child could go either way as it is the male who has both sex chromosomes in his DNA. If a lesbian couple wants a male child, well they will be out of luck unless a Y chromosome can be conjured out of nowhere. It could come from a sperm donor, but in that case the child won't be 100% biologically theirs.
