I figure, as long as people are paying to see them tour and buying their records, then why should they retire? I saw KISS in 1996 and 2000, and they were terrific. I wouldn't see them now, but I still listen to their music regularly and am happy it's available. Even Psycho Circus and forward have had good tunes.
