This isn't just about taking something personally. If you went through a horrible situation that creates fear in you when it's brought up then when someone makes a comment/joke about it. It will bring back those same feelings that you had when you went through that horrible situation. It's almost like you are saying that things cause triggers for people should be A-okay because they just need to get over themselves.

You don't know how you would react when you are raped so don't even try that. Go through the experience first then come back with your lame commentary.
This isn't an issue of everyone trying to be all PC nowadays as opposed to how un-PC things were in the past. This is an issue of people lacking empathy and not giving a **** about other human beings just because they don't know they them.
