The band has shed a lot of their black metal roots on this album in favor for more of a stoner or doom foundation, which I think lends itself better to their psychedelic trappings. It is kind of sad because they were pretty much one of the only bands to successfully mix black metal and psychedelic rock, so to see them largely abandon it for other subgenres is kind of sad, but it really does make the album more fun to listen to. |
