I think, in general, such a person is not really seeing the larger picture. Not all mistakes are easily recovered from, and not all lessons are easily learned. Your biggest mistakes are often the most regretted ones that, after they happen, you wish you had taken that advice.
You don't pat yourself on the back and feel pride in having gone through them.

At least, for me this rings true. I'm not sure what level of mistake you're referring to in your statement.
My mistakes haven't been that serious but I still feel that's just part of life even if you end up regretting a costly mistake. I feel like it's better to go through circumstances and hardships on your own for that learning experience. Someone can give you advice to avoid it but you won't really understand why you need to avoid it unless you have it wearing on your shoulders heavily.
