I find myself asking myself why alcohol even exists. What is the point of it? I enjoy a drink from time to time, but why? (Biologically/psychologically, what is the purpose?)

I wish it was legal for bartenders to hold people's keys in designated lock-boxes (sort of similar to rows of little P.O. boxes at the post office), and in order for the owner to get them back, they have to pass a breathalyzer test to ensure that they're not over the limit. And if they are, they're required to take a taxi. Would certainly cut down on public intoxication, I think.
