If your friends only want you when you're a "party animal" or part of the gang then they're no friends at all. As you correctly say, friends are supposed to be there for you in the bad times as well as the good. You should in no way feel under stress to act as they want you to. They're entirely selfish, if they realise they're doing this and still do it. Have you tried talking to any of them, maybe the closer ones, about it? Maybe they just don't realise you're down, particularly if you're putting on a false face all the time.
