Here is a great obscure song from way back when - 1973: "Ships and Sails".

As far as I know I there is no video or even audio of this song being performed. So I can only tell everyone here about this great folk rock song.

It appeared on the excellent album titled "On the Frontier" by a band called "Shoot". I believe that Shoot was a band that existed briefly during 1973 and only cut this single album, "On the Frontier". If my memory is not failing me "Shoot" was a band formed by the former drummer of The Yardbirds, Jim McCarty (I hope I spelled that right). When Jimmy Page progressed from the Yardbirds he went into the hard rock/heavy blues business. But Jim McCarty was more fond of folk rock.

The album "On the Frontier" appeared briefly in the record stores of Sweden during 1973 (probably during the summer months) and soon after seemed to just dissappear. I suspect that the album was released, but then pulled back from the record stores due to some sort of legal dispute - but I donĀ“t know.

My sister purchased a vinyl copy of "On the Frontier" during 1973. I loved to listen to it during the years 1973-1975 whenever my sister let me. But then in 1975 a "friend" of my sister stole her entire collection of LPs in order to get money for drugs. I tried to purchase a new copy of "On the Frontier" - but it was nowhere to be found. And most people had never heard of it - even though it had been released only two or three years previously.

For a period of roughly 38 years I only had a fond memory of this album and its beautiful songs. But then, roughly a year ago, I discovered, to my delight, that the album had been made available on iTunes Store. I immediately purchased the entire album for the sake of my iPod. It turned out that "Ships and Sails" was every bit as good as my memory told me it was.

"Ships and Sails" is my favorite one of the ten folk rock songs on this album. Other great songs on the album are "On the Frontier", "Head Under Water" and "Sepia Sister". Check it out on iTunes!

Also - I would be immensely grateful if anybody here could provide me with information concerning the facts about the band "Shoot", and about the mysterious vanishing act carried out by their album "On the Frontier" way back in 1973.
