That reminds me of a few months ago, when I was at a friend's party and was standing alone in the corner (didn't feel like mingling at that moment), and this guy came up to talk. He was clearly interested while I was trying to exaggerate my non-interest. I even told him I wasn't single. Then my boyfriend comes back with some drinks, and clearly puts his arm around me and says "Hey man, what's up?"
The guy was visibly crushed, but he obviously didn't pick up on my signals.
