DJ I agree it didn't play out that well in the very end (to see the actual ending you have to watch all three seasons of Ashes to Ashes, be warned, as each series of Life on Mars ends on something of a cliffhanger) but I think it was more about the journey and not the destination for me.

I think Life on Mars would have been a much better complete package if it had ended the way that John Simm has said he'd like to it finish ie. never fading back out from black after he jumped, towards the end of the last episode (not wanting to spoil it). But that's just my opinion.
