It's kind of mind blowing just how influential such a short comic was on the Joker. I doubt the Dark Knight would have been the same movie without it.

The Killing Joke is probably my favorite thing I've ever read. So short, but so twisted and effective, and it pretty much defined the Joker and solidified himself in my eyes as the greatest villain in the history of fiction.
