Yeah you can record simple 1 track stuff. You can edit them afterwards but simple stuff(just cutting stuff out and adding a fade in and out.)

It's for raw stuff that you wanna capture on a whim, depending on your phone it can sound pretty damn good (I have a 4S and recordings sound surprisingly clear with not much fuzz in the background). Not studio quality but solid enough. I use it to record jams on my acoustic with vocals a lot when I'm working on new stuff or to capture a jam real quick.

As for multitrack there's Garage Band although I haven't messed with it on the phone. I'm pretty sure you can get an adapter to plug in a guitar or other instruments. I've only used GB on a MacBook though so my knowledge on the workings of the mobile version is non existent haha
