Michael Jackson is the second biggest solo act of all time but he was still heavily criticized, bashed and ridiculed by the media.
Just because an artist sells records does not necessarily mean they are in the media's good graces or they do not get criticized.
It is really misinformed to say Tupac was not criticized. Most of his criticism related to his music and his political opinions on how African Americans were being treated. He didn't only say his political opinions in his music. He boldly stated his opinions in interviews, tv shows, etc.
