That's true of loads of artists who still get played a lot on the radio.
As for who got played more I can only go by what I heard at the time and I'd never even heard of Biggie Smalls until after he died, whereas I heard 2Pac constantly on the radio in his lifetime.

Biggie was far more commercial than 2pac.
And some artists have never had a song banned so that is not true for "most artists"
My point was his songs were banned because they were "political"
