Just cause you're poor it doesn't mean you have to be dumb, just cause there is not a library near you it doesn't mean there is not a library in your town.

Ive lived in projects all my life and these "Poor ppl" (i.e mostly black wannabe thugs) are consciously ignorant, they can't blame the circumstances for how they choose to be, education is free but they don't care for learning.
Like Janzsoon said, yes and no. My family are middle class, possibly even upper middle class, type-A personalities who are highly motivated. Makes me sick. And since they're conditioned to live a middle-class lifestyle, in a middle-class environment, with a middle-class mindset they're motivated to maintain that lifestyle and see no reason why it shouldn't be possible for anyone else to do so.

I've also worked with a lot of people from the other side of the tracks. They're not conditioned by that kind of experience to see that, not so much hard work since they do work their asses off, but the kind of...proactive(?) approach that my family is so used to actually does pay off in the end. A lot of them have a sort of fatalistic view of their lot in life that is reinforced by their environment.

So it is their fault for not taking certain chances that I imagine even the most downtrodden might be able to take, but with the mentality that goes along with that kind of lifestyle it's kind of unfair to think that they would have the mindset to take such chances. Kind of like asking a businessman to sell off all of his worldly possessions to go live as a Buddhist monk. Sure there are Buddhist monks who make a go of it, but it would be completely alien to a Western businessman.
