Also agreeing that it's a great album cover and it summarizes the album pretty well!!

I was looking for something new to check out as soon as I saw Jans' post, so I downloaded it immediately and already have my answers ready:

Questions for Tipper - Broken Soul Jamboree
  1. What were your VERY FIRST impressions on listening to the album, say from the first five minutes in (first time)?

Very cool and unique, the first track is absolutely brilliant, somehow he mixes so many interesting influences into one bizarre, awesome journey. Side note: I have definitely extensively used the exact same synth that is used at the beginning of the second track for Daydream Society songs. So that's kinda cool.

  2. Did your first impressions change, i.e., did the album get better or worse as you listened to it (first time)?

Better, but mostly because I was extremely impressed at the production and the variety of the songs here. There's ambiance, trip-hop, world, glitch hop...just tons of great, interesting tracks.

  3. Which was stronger in your opinion, the opening tracks (first 2-3 songs), or the ending tracks (last 2-3 songs)?

The first three tracks were really great, mostly anchored by the opener as the second and third tracks are a little more standard, moody trip-hop. While still very good, it was the first track that really grabbed me. The last three tracks were good though too. The closing track was simply gorgeous.

  4. On repeated listens (if you did so), did you find you liked the album more, or less? Feel free to be very detailed if you like.

I liked it just as much on repeated listens. I've listened to it three times so far.

  5. What is your favorite track from the album, if you have one?

Big Question Small Head, but I also absolutely loved Brocken Specter and Ever Decreasing Circles is just beautiful, and so is Tit For Tat and man...this is a really good album.

  6. What is your least favorite track from the album, if you have one?

I'm not sure I can pinpoint one, there really wasn't a single track I disliked. There were several tracks that I felt were a little too long and, if about 7 minutes were cut off the album it would've made it even better. With this in mind I'd probably say Cinder Cone was my least favorite of them all.

  7. Did you change your favorite or least favorite track as you listened to the album?

No, as I said my favorite track was the first one and I liked every song on the album.

  8. How would you describe the variety of tracks available on this album? Feel free to be very detailed if you like.

There's a large variety. So many different instruments, so many different styles and influences, it's really an awesome album when you want to hear a lot of different sounds.

  9. What is the overall mood on this album?

It's all very ominous and primal. I know this is a cliche, but it really feels like it's not from this planet. I can just easily visualize walking through some forest on an alien planet while listening to it, which is obviously awesome.

  10. Is this an album you would listen to again all the way through (for personal, recreational use, outside of listening to it for this club), or are there just a few songs that you would listen to?

Well since I've already listened to it three times and plan on giving it a few more spins tonight even, I'd say yes.

  11. How well do you already know the band/artist?

This is the first material I've ever heard by Tipper.

  12. If you are familiar with this band/artist, how would you compare this album to any of their earlier/later material?

    N/A

  13. Do you see any way the album could have been improved?

I mentioned this earlier, but I felt it dragged a bit. Some songs could've cut out a few unnecessary measures here and there and the album would've been even better.

  14. Would you recommend this album to others?

Absolutely. It's got its "weird" elements but it's also very accessible, I think almost anyone would enjoy this album.

  15. Are you interested in listening to more albums by this band?

    Without question.

  16. What sub-genre, if any, would you assign this music to?

Man, I'd say most of it revolves around trip-hop/glitch hop, but seriously this album does not stick to just one musical convention. I've never really heard anything quite like this.

  17. Your overall album rating on a scale of 1-10 (whole numbers please. Also, please BOLD or otherwise make this rating easy to see)?

I feel pretty good giving this a 9/10. I really loved it and it's already become one of my favorites in my electronica collection.
